Dozens of people were feared dead and scores taken hostage in a series of violent terror attacks in Paris, France, with one of the reported targets the music venue where EAGLES OF DEATH METAL were playing. It’s being reported that at least 100 hostages have been taken hostage at the Bataclan concert and a number of people killed. According to multiple early reports, several hostages have reportedly escaped from the 1,500-capacity venue, although dozens remained inside. An eyewitness told CNN that he saw at least 20 dead bodies at the venue.
There are reportedly between six and eight attackers in the Bataclan looking for concertgoers who are in hiding. They also say that there is a shootout in the street, with police “firing at a rooftop position near the venue.” The BBC quoted a friend of a French journalist who escaped the theater as saying that they gunmen mentioned Syria during the attack.
The mother of one of the EAGLES OF DEATH METAL members tells the Washington Post her son and other band members have escaped, although some crew remain trapped as hostages.
At least 60 people are believed to have been killed in the attacks, with President Francois Hollande shutting France’s borders and declaring a national state of emergency.
“This is a terrible test, another assault on France,” Hollande said. “We must, in these difficult moments, prove our our compassion and unity. Faced with terrorism, France must above all be strong. Each of us has a personal responsibility. There is much to fear, but facing these fears is a nation that knows how to muster its forces and will confront the terrorists.”
