Washington, D.C., grinders Magrudergrind are back after a six-year hiatus and will release their II album on Feb. 12. It sounds like pressing your face against a belt sander (in the very best way, of course) and we’ve got the premiere of Magrudergrind’s new video for “Sacrificial Hire.”
From the rich grindcore / power-violence city of D.C., Magrudergrind formed in 2002 and quickly began to develop a following in the DIY community. Their debut album, Rehashed, was released in 2007 followed by a eponymous sophomore album in 2009. After Magrudergrind’s six-year break, they signed up with Relapse Records to unleash II on the metal community. Like their 2009 full-length, Magrudergrind’s II album was produced by Converge‘s Kurt Ballou (High on Fire / Every Time I Die) to harness complete crushing power.
“Sacrificial Hire” is a gritty clip that delves into some kind of cult or militia. In pseudo-psychedelic fashion, we get flashes of a bomb making process, which comes off as troubling to say the least. “We’re excited to collaborate with filmmaker Richard Rankin to bring a visual dimension to the lyrical themes of II,” Magrudergrind write. “Sacrificial Hire” speaks to the vulnerability of a feeble mind to religious extremism and self sacrifice. The visuals an unhinged window into that hallucinatory fanaticism.”
