Eagles of Death Metal recently bowed out of their European touring in the wake of the terrorist attack at Paris’ Bataclan at their show and while the band has issued statements in the aftermath, they haven’t spoken publicly until now.
Frontman Jesse Hughes and guitarist Josh Homme sat down for a video interview with Vice that will be running in full shortly, but a teaser clip arrived over the weekend. In it, you can see a clearly distraught Hughes detailing some of the harrowing events of the attack.
“Several people hid in our dressing room and the killers were able to get in and killed every one of them – except for a kid who was hiding under my leather jacket,” Hughes stated. “People were playing dead and they were so scared. A great reason why so many were killed is because so many people wouldn’t leave their friends. So many people put themselves in front of people.” Keep an eye out for the full interview coming soon.
In related news, a documentary about the band’s frontman, Jesse Hughes, has been pulled from a film festival in Amsterdam.
According to the BBC, The Redemption of the Devil was recently pulled from the slate of screenings at the International Documentary Film Festival. The Alex Hoffman-directed film centers on frontman Jesse “The Devil” Hughes as he becomes an ordained minister and ponders a future in politics. The film was reportedly pulled because the timing felt inappropriate.
The group bowed out of their touring while they attempted to come to terms with what happened at the show. Meanwhile, many other acts have either bowed out of full European tours or canceled shows specifically in France. According to the BBC, ticket sales for concerts in Paris have fallen by around 80 percent since the terrorist attacks. French Culture Minister Fleur Pellerin has reportedly promised four million euros to help in getting live entertainment back to where it was with new security measures in place.
