BLACK SABBATH’s GEEZER BUTLER On LEMMY: ‘He Was Probably The Most Intelligent Person I’d Met’

BLACK SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler spoke to Yahoo! Music about the recent deaths of MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister and British art-rock icon David Bowie. You can watch the clip below.

On the subject of Lemmy, Butler said: “There is only one Lemmy and only ever will be one Lemmy. We used to tour with him all the time; there was always MOTÖRHEAD on the bill somewhere. And he was great to talk to; he was really philosophical and very well-learned and –read. And we used to talk about books and philosophy and all that kind of stuff. He was really… He was probably the most intelligent person I’d met — certainly in the music business. [Laughs]”

Lemmy, who celebrated his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve (December 24), learned two days later that he was afflicted with an aggressive form of cancer. He died two days later, on December 28, at his home in Los Angeles.

The MOTÖRHEAD frontman had dealt with several health issues over the past few years, including heart trouble, forcing him to cut back on his famous smoking and Jack Daniels habits.

The band was forced to cancel a number of shows last year, although they did manage to complete one final European tour on December 11.
