Steel Panther have been making metal fans laugh for years and the next slab of hair metal hilarity will come on Feb. 26 when the group releases their live acoustic DVD and album Live From Lexxi’s Mom’s Garage. The performance contains four new songs that will only be featured on this release along with some of their most notorious hits. “The Burden of Being Wonderful” falls into the later category and the stripped down performance can be seen in the video above.
The song comes off the band’s latest studio album, All You Can Eat, and the acoustic version accented by violins and cellos in the background is adapted perfectly. The song deals exclusively in vanity as frontman Michael Starr exclaims all the qualities that make him so wonderful and how difficult it can be to deal with being so much better than everyone else. While “The Burden of Being Wonderful” is satire, the acoustic presentation serves the title even better than the original, evoking the “burden” feeling in the soft strumming of the guitar strings and toned down drumming.
When the video ends, it cuts to drummer Stix Zadinia placing an oder for pizza delivery. When asked what toppings he wants he mentions he wants chili flakes, “Bon Chovis,” apple chicken sausage, Sicilian sausage, pineapple, pepperoni, green peppers, onions, super spicy sausage, mellow spicy sausage, chicken sausage, apple chicken turkey sausage and… apple slices. As for the other pizza? “Just cheese.” When the delivery man shows up, Zadinia can’t find his money and walks off to hunt it down and the clip ends, directing fans to go to steelpantherocks.com to see the rest.
The first taste of one of the four new songs off Live From Lexxi’s Mom’s Garage came when the band dished out “That’s When You Came In.” Replete with more gutter humor from the comedic outfit, the song has a driving feel despite its acoustic limitations and the performance is a clever juxtaposition on what would typically be a more somber album.
