Slayer Go Behind the Scenes on Prison Set of ‘Repentless’ Video

As Slayer prepare to release their 11th studio album, Repentless, they are also primed to unleash the music video for the title-track. In a behind-the-scenes video, the band shares moments from the violent clip filmed in a former L.A. prison and starring Danny Trejo, among other movie actors. Check it out above.

“We’re telling the story that we’ve always told about society and how humans treat each other,” Tom Araya tells Rolling Stone in the video. “It can get pretty violent. It can get pretty stupid. But that’s OK. That’s human nature.”

Kerry King added, “I’m probably the most excited I’ve been for a video that we’ve ever done. Head-banging in the son for 11 takes? It doesn’t get any easier.” While drummer Paul Bostaph talked more about the blood-drenched, violent scenes fans can expect when the full video debuts. “What’s being filmed here is a story of something that becomes violent,” he went on. “There’s no way to do it PG. It’s got to be done as close to reality as possible.”

King previously said of the song, “Slayer is repentless; Slayer’s always been repentless. I said, ‘You know what, I should write something about how I think Jeff [Hanneman] looked at the world, because he looked at the world exactly how Slayer looked at the world.’ Plus little ‘Jeff-isms.’ It was both easy and difficult. The difficult part was doing it justice; I didn’t want to just throw it together. I wanted it to be solid, as deep as it could be without getting personal.” As you may recall, Slayer co-founder and primary songwriter Jeff Hanneman died on May 2, 2013 from alcohol-related cirrhosis at the age of 49.

Slayer’s new album is out on Sept. 1, and is available for pre-order at iTunes. While you wait for the “Repentless” music video to debut, head here to watch the official visualizer video.
