His name may be Flea, but it’s another tiny creature that’s drawing his interest these days. The Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist has made room in his home for an apiary that includes over 200,000 bees.

According to TMZ, Flea owns three beehives, each of which take up residence in his backyard. Over the last few months, Flea has been tweeting about his beekeeping hobby, stating at one point, “Deep to the hive super organism. I love my bees. Flea’s bees.” Another post stated, “Pleezus more beezus,” while another added, “Me about to get busy with my beautiful little bees that I love.”

Flea has expressed his passion for environmentalism over the years and with the honeybee population dying off, his home apiary is a way for him to get involved. According to TMZ, he’s only just started as a beekeeper and has really taken to it. Check out some of his Instagram photos below.

Flea and his Red Hot Chili Peppers bandmates are currently in the process of creating a new studio album. He’ll also return to the stage later this year, along with his Atoms for Peace bandmate Thom Yorke and others, as they take part in the Pathway to Paris concert in December. The show is a benefit meant to raise awareness about the urgency for climate action and coincides with the UN Climate Change Conference, which takes place in Paris between Nov. 30 and Dec. 11.
