Of Mice & Men Debut Live ‘Never Giving Up’ Video, Austin Carlile Talks Health Issues

Of Mice & Men have enjoyed major breakout success with their 2014 Restoring Force album and the deluxe edition that followed. Now they’re digging a little deeper by releasing a new video for their current single, “Never Giving Up.”

The song is featured on the deluxe edition of Restoring Force and the black-and-white shot video shows the triumphant and uplifting nature of the track as seen through various concert shots. The clip is also a reminder of how energetic the band’s stage show is and gives you an idea of some of the pain that co-vocalist Austin Carlile was likely going through just to perform.

Earlier this year, Carlile underwent surgery to remove part of his rib that would help in his continuing battle with Marfan Syndrome. The genetic disorder affects the body’s connective tissues and at one point during touring earlier this year, the pain got so bad from a broken rib that the vocalist was hospitalized. He later underwent multiple surgeries and has spent the summer recovering.

In the video below, Carlile discusses the ordeal. “Three times while I was on the road, I had to stop and get never blocks, a shot in my spine and a shot in the back of my rib, just to numb the pain of the broken rib I had every night of playing the shows.”

The vocalist goes on to thank the fans for all their support during their touring and understanding while the band is off the road. He dedicates the “Never Giving Up” video to them. At present, there are no scheduled dates for Of Mice & Men, who recently bowed out of the Louder Than Life festival so that Carlile could continue his recovery.
