The image displayed on the official GUNS N’ ROSES web site has just been changed to the band’s old logo, further fueling speculation that we are only days away from an announcement of a reunion of the classic GN’R lineup.
Rumors about GUNS‘ return have been heating up ever since the summer, when guitarist Slash revealed that he and singer Axl Rose had repaired their relationship after nearly 20 years of estrangement.
One of the first shows that the reunited GUNS N’ ROSES is rumored to be playing is next year’s Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival, which takes places annually in April in Indio, California.
The official lineup announcement for the 2016 edition of Coachella will be made on January 5.
Rose was the only original member of GUNS N’ ROSES in the band’s most recent lineup, which toured intermittently since 2006 and played its second Las Vegas residency last year.
Drummer Steven Adler was fired from GUNS N’ ROSES in 1990 for his rampant drug use and replaced by Matt Sorum. Fans have wondered whether both drummers would be brought back for a reunion tour.
Sorum told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that if the band reunites, he and Adler should both be there. “If it’s me on drums or Steven or whatever, if it happened, it’d be great, you know. I would actually say to them, ‘Hey, bring both of us back,’ you know. Let me play the other stuff. We’ll have two drum kits. I don’t care. If ‘Appetite’ [‘For Destruction’, the band’s debut] sounds better with Steven playing it, have both guys up there. They can afford it.”
The closest anyone came to a GUNS reunion in recent memory was when the band was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2012. Three original members of the band, including Slash, Duff McKagan and Adler, showed up, but Axl and guitarist Izzy Stradlin were no-shows.
At the time Slash said in several interviews that the Hall Of Fame ceremony gave him a sense of “closure.”
GUNS N’ ROSES recently parted ways with guitarists DJ Ashba and Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal.
