Eagles of Death Metal returned to Paris last night for the band’s first headlining gig in the city since 89 fans were killed at La Bataclan. The show stood out as a night of healing for the people of Paris and Eagles of Death Metal, who called the gig one of the most special shows and days of their lives.

The attack on Le Bataclan last November will always be remembered as one of the most tragic moments in rock history. EODM fans were senselessly slaughtered in an act of terror, but Paris wasn’t afraid to have Eagles back in their city. Less than a month after the attack, Eagles of Death Metal joined U2 for a Paris performance, but this was the band’s first headlining gig back since Le Bataclan.

Josh Homme, who almost never tours with EODM, played drums during the show. He didn’t kick Julian Dorio out of his drumming spot, though. Instead, two drum kits were set up so both musicians could be a part of the show. Eagles of Death Metal played 20 songs plus gave lead singer  Jesse ‘Boots Electric’ Hughes’ solo time onstage.

The band thanked Paris for an unforgettable night via Facebook:

We love you so, so hard, Paris. Thank you all for being there with us. One of the most special shows — and days — of our lives.
