CROWBAR’s New Album Will Have ‘Old-School Feel To It,’ Says KIRK WINDSTEIN

New Orleans sludge metal veterans CROWBAR will enter OCD Recording And Production in Metairie, Louisiana with engineer/producer Duane Simoneaux on February 17 to begin recording the follow-up to 2014’s “Symmetry In Black” album. A summer release is expected.

CROWBAR guitarist/vocalist Kirk Windstein told Revolver magazine about the songwriting process for the band’s next CD: “I love getting into whole mindset of writing an album. Once I get in that zone, I just become obsessed with it. I mean, I’ll be at the grocery store and come up with an idea, and then I’ll be in a trance in the checkout line with this thing going on in my head. I’ll literally have to hurry up and get home so I can pick up the guitar and work it out!”

Windstein described the new material as having “sort of an old-school feel to it. He said: “On the last few albums, we brought in some new elements to what the original idea of the CROWBAR sound was. It was very refreshing, and I think all in all it worked out great, but I’m trying to bring back some of the original elements that somehow got phased out little by little over the course of the last 26 years. I’ve also been listening to certain stuff like CARNIVORE, the MELVINS, TROUBLE — bands that were big influences on the original CROWBAR sound. The sound of what’s going on right now reminds me of a better, fresher, more mature version of the original CROWBAR stuff.”

“Symmetry In Black” sold around 3,900 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 68 on The Billboard 200 chart.

CROWBAR’s previous CD, 2011’s “Sever The Wicked Hand”, opened with around 3,500 units to land at position No. 4 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Symmetry In Black” came out in North America on May 27, 2014 via Entertainment One Music. The CD, which was made available in Europe on May 26, 2014 through Century Media Records, was produced by Windstein and Duane Simoneaux and was mixed by Josh Wilbur (LAMB OF GOD, GOJIRA).
