Coheed and Cambria’s Claudio Sanchez Covers Adele’s ‘Hello’

As spoofed recently on Saturday Night Live, Adele‘s “Hello” is “the song that unites us all.” We recently saw YouTube sensation Anthony Vincent cover the song in 25 different styles, but now another rocker has taken on the track with much fewer stylistic shifts. That rocker is Coheed and Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez.

As can be seen in the video above, Sanchez goes for a sparse arrangement, sitting and picking on his guitar with a sole microphone set up. Though not reaching the power of Adele’s original, he stays mostly true the original arrangement and does showcase his falsetto and higher register at points during the song. Sanchez does a solid job of conveying the emotion of “Hello” with arguably a more intimate rendition.

Sanchez says he was inspired to do the cover by his mother. In his posting of the video, he dedicated the track to her, explaining, “[She] told me the new Coheed record is just as good, if not better, than the new Adele. :) Honestly, what else is a mother suppose to say to her son. I love you, mom.”

Speaking of that record, Sanchez and his band Coheed and Cambria have been supporting their standout The Color Before the Sun album for a good portion of the year. The disc has already yielded the songs “You Got Spirit, Kid,” as well as “Here to Mars,” “Eraser” and “Island.” The Color Before the Sun is currently available via Amazon and iTunes.
