There was a lot of guitar power on display Friday in Helsinki, Finland. Children of Bodom frontman Alexi Laiho was commissioned to write a song for the Helsinki Festival, and he invited 100 electric guitarists to join him playing the composition in the city’s Senate Square. Check out the nearly hourlong video above (the performance itself starts at the 36:50 mark). There’s a shorter “making of” documentary you can watch below.
Laiho’s Children of Bodom bandmates Jaska Raatikainen (drums) and Janne Wirman (keyboards) also participated in the performance along with For the Imperium bassist Jyri Helko and of course the 100 guitarists.
The guitarists were divided into five different groups, and on the 100 Guitars From Hel website there are videos of Laiho demonstrating the various parts of the song. The event also has its own Facebook page, where photos and video of the rehearsal sessions were posted.
Children of Bodom’s latest album I Worship Chaos will be released Oct. 2. The band will embark on a European tour beginning Oct. 25 in Poland. For all their dates,go here.
