AC/DC To Perform First Major Concert At Former Olympic Stadium In London

AC/DC will be the first band to perform a major concert at the former Olympic Stadium in London, England’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The concert, taking place June 4, 2016, will be the first major event in the stadium after the transformation works are finished. The stadium has been undergoing work since 2013 to turn it into a year-round, multi-use venue. The work includes installing the largest roof of its kind in the world, a community track, innovative retractable seating, spectator and hospitality facilities and external landscaping.

The E20 Stadium LLP, a joint venture between the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) and Newham Legacy Investments, owns the stadium. French company VINCI Stadium operates and maintains the stadium on a day-to-day basis.

AC/DC’s June concert is part of the band’s European “Rock Or Bust” tour.

“Having the legends of rock, AC/DC, perform the first major concert in this world-class venue will be a spectacular way for the stadium to start its new life,” said Linda Lennon CBE, chief executive at the Stadium. “This summer has already demonstrated what a great venue the stadium will be and next summer it will only go from strength to strength.”

AC/DC’s sixteenth studio album, “Rock Or Bust”, has sold more than 550,000 copies since debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard album chart back in December 2014.

It’s the band’s first album without founding guitarist Malcolm Young, who is suffering from dementia. He has been replaced by nephew Stevie Young.

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd was arrested in November 2014 at his home in Tauranga on charges of threatening to kill and possession of methamphetamine and cannabis.

Although Rudd played on “Rock Or Bust”, he did not appear in photos or videos for the disc.

One-time AC/DC drummer Chris Slade officially joined the band’s lineup for its performance on the February 8 Grammy Awards telecast. Slade is also behind the kit for the group’s current world tour.
