It’s time to get in the pit and Stone Sour have just the music for you. The band has covered Bad Brains‘ punk-infused anthem “Sailin’ On” for their upcoming Straight Outta Burbank covers EP.
Throughout their career, Stone Sour have leaned more hard rock, but over the past year we’ve seen them vary their sound somewhat by covering some of the acts that have influenced them. “Sailin’ On” may quite possibly be the most punk-infused track the band has done in their career.
Guitarist Josh Rand recently told Rolling Stone, “To stay true to the original recordings of these songs, we tried to recreate the sounds and tones that the original artist used. This was both fun and challenging, but the end result was worth all the hard work everyone put into achieving it.”
Straight Outta Burbank is the second release in what is expected to a trilogy of covers EPs. This disc is a mixture of everything from punk to metal, with songs from Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Slayer and the Rolling Stones also being represented on the disc. The EP will initially arrive on vinyl as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday promotion (Nov. 27).
As for the third covers EP, titled No Sleep Till Burbank, will reportedly feature covers of songs from Van Halen, Violent Femmes, Buzzcocks, Rage Against the Machine and AC/DC. An official release date for that effort has not been announced. The first disc in the series was Meanwhile In Burbank, which arrived back in April featuring covers of songs from Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Metallica, KISS and Alice in Chains.
