According to The Pulse Of Radio, Steven Tyler and daughter Mia popped up during CNN’s coverage of Saturday’s (January 23) blizzard in New York’s Central Park. A bundled up Tyler told CNN: “I’m gonna hunker down. I’ve got a funny feeling the storm’s gonna keep us here a couple extra days.” Tyler was in town doing press for his latest single, “Red, White, And You”, from his still-untitled solo album, due out soon.
Tyler — who was seen in the news coverage wearing what looked to be a giant version of one of his signature scarves — recently explained how the habit of dangling scarves from his mic stand became a trademark for him. He said: “We played every college in Massachusetts and a lot of clubs — K-K-K-Katies, and we did four 45-minute sets, sweated to… Y’know, I was soakin’ wet and I used to wear this shirt and after three months of that, the shirt just turned into rags [laughs], and I would hang it, y’know, as a rights of passage on the mic stand. So, one thing led to another…”
“Red White & You” is being described by Tyler’s record label, Big Machine Label Group’s Dot Records, as “American up-tempo country anthem.”
“Red White & You” is a glorious illustration of how to weave the famous slide guitar and banjo-jangling sounds of country with the huge radio-friendly choruses that have been synonymous of Tyler’s highly prolific musical career to date. Produced by Tyler himself, along with one of country music’s finest session players Dann Huff (Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift, Celine Dion), the track was also co-written with Nathan Barlowe, Levi Hummon and Jon Vella.
In May 2015, Tyler released his first country single, “Love Is Your Name”, which reached #1 on the Billboard Country Streaming Songs chart.
Tyler’s full-length country debut is tentatively due later in the year. The singer will also perform alongside Nashville-based band LOVING MARY for two nights in March at the Niagara Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.
