Shinedown Unveil New Song ‘State of My Head’

We’ve been rocked hard by Shinedown‘s “Cut the Cord” and given a soulful perspective on “Black Cadillac” over the last month or so, and now the band has just unleashed another song off their upcoming album Threat to Survival. Check out the catchy new track “State of My Head” in the player above.

As you can hear, the track is more of a beat driven, radio-friendly rocker with the earworm phrasing of “round ‘em up, round ‘em up, let’s go” and the repetitive, “State of my state of my state of my head” sure to get stuck in your head.

“‘State of My Head’ was actually built around its rhythm, inspired by the bounce of the song and the way the track moves,” frontman Brent Smith tells USA Today, which premiered the song. “Usually I write with a melody in mind, but this time, it was more about the flow. We really didn’t have the other instrumentation down — I pretty much wrote it to a drum track. We will always be ‘rock and roll’ to the bone, but this song is a prime example of how we refused to limit ourselves on this album.”

As mentioned, the new single appears on Shinedown’s Threat to Survival album, which is due Sept. 18. Pre-order the disc via the band’s website or on iTunes. Look for Shinedown touring in support of the new disc this fall as they co-headline dates with Breaking Benjamin, with support from Sevendust on select shows.
