Neil’s Danville home made headlines last week when his name was included on the list of East Bay, California residents who were said to be excessive water users.
Records show that more than 2,200 gallons were consumed daily at Neil’s house in Danville, which is said to be one of California’s top 25 wealthiest cities, and one of the wealthiest suburbs of Oakland and San Francisco.
Neil’s name popped up on a list of 1,802 customers of the East Bay Municipal Utility District who, during their most recent 60-day billing cycle, used more than a cap of roughly 1,000 gallons of water per day. The average household uses between 300 and 400 gallons daily.
But Neil claimed that he didn’t understand why he made the list, especially since he hadn’t lived in the area for half a decade. He wrote on his personal Facebook page: “Wow!! This is news to me!! I haven’t lived in my Danville, CA house for over five years. My property manager would have informed me if there was a violation of Excessive Water Use!!”
Vince’s manager told the ABC-affiliated TV station KGO-TV that Neil now lives in Las Vegas and has been touring for two years.
The Excessive Water Use Ordinance imposes fines on suspected water wasters as a reaction to the state’s drought.
Neil faces a fine of $2 for every unit of water he used over the 60-day billing period that exceeded the utility district’s cap.
