Metal Allegiance Unveil Video for ‘Dying Song’ Featuring Philip Anselmo

The term “supergroup” is tossed around pretty loosely, but in the case of the all-star collective Metal Allegiance, it’s a fitting description. Check out the video for their single “Dying Song” above off the band’s self-titled debut, which is set for a Sept. 18 release.

The list of those playing on the album is a who’s who of metal luminaries including Philip AnselmoChuck BillyRandy BlytheJamey JastaChris JerichoTroy SandersSteve “Zetro” SouzaMatt HeafydUg PinnickAlissa White-GluzCristina Scabbia, Mark Osegueda, Tim “Ripper” OwensCharlie BenanteRex BrownRon “Bumblefoot” ThalPhil DemmelGary HoltAndreas KisserMisha Mansoor and Ben Weinman along with project leaders Alex SkolnickDavid Ellefson and Mike Portnoy.

“Dying Song” features Anselmo on vocals, delivering a varied performance ranging from mellow croons to urgent growls. The rest of the lineup on the track is Skolnick on guitar, Mark Menghi on bass and Portnoy on drums.

“It’s always my pleasure to jam with such esteemed musicians and brothers, and my contribution to this project is further proof of that fact,” Anselmo says. “Hail to all heavy metallers the world over.”

The video’s concept is the scythe-wielding Grim Reaper doing his job of ending lives and marking them by snuffing out candles. However, his last assignment doesn’t turn out the way he expected.

Pre-orders for Metal Allegiance’s debut disc are available at this location. The all-star collective will be playing an album release show Sept. 17 at New York City’s Best Buy Theater. They have been releasing a series of webisodes giving an inside look at the creation of the album. Check out the latest video below, and see the rest at the band’s YouTube channel.
