Echo of The Metal Authority recently conducted an interview with KAMELOT guitarist Thomas Youngblood. You can now watch the chat below.
Asked to describe his bandmates and himself in a few words, Thomas said: “[Drummer] Casey Grillo has been with KAMELOT the longest, next to me. He’s my loyal colleague and he’s the generator machine for the band live. He’s funny but he’s also kind of quiet. I would say similar to me, in a way — an introvert, [but] once you get to know him, it’s different. But on the surface, we’re both sort of quiet guys.
“[Bassist] Sean [Tibbetts] is the wild man on stage. He’s always excited about music and touring and KAMELOT and the fans. Like I said, live, he’s just… We all sometime watch him ourselves on stage, ‘cause he’s such a beast on stage. He’s awesome.
“[Keyboardist Oliver Palotai] is the maestro. Oliver is very quiet off stage. He’s very… what do you call it? Subdued. [He’s] reading a book before [going] on stage. But on stage, he’s also a madman. And he’s an amazing guitar player too. A lot of people don’t know that. Him and Casey are probably the best musicians in the group. Oliver also has been a big collaborator with [2012’s] ‘Silverthorn’ and [2015’s] ‘Haven’ albums.
“[Singer Tommy Karevik] had a huge role to fill, and he has actually taken this opportunity and I think he’s taken KAMELOT to another level. He’s very humble, which is very refreshing today. A lot of girls like him; I don’t know why. [Laughs] But he’s just an awesome guy. I mean, what can I say? He probably would be a superhero in some other life. Luckily, he’s the singer for KAMELOT.
“I would say [I am] also humble and quiet. I have a very hard work ethic, and I’m also very loyal to people. I think it’s maybe also why I connect well with Japanese people. You have to ask someone else about me, because I don’t like to talk about myself.”
KAMELOT’s new album, “Haven”, sold around 7,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release.
The CD was made available on May 5 in North America and May 8 in the rest of the world (excluding Asia) via Napalm Records as part of an exclusive licensing deal through the band’s Kamelot Music LLC.
Produced by Sascha Paeth and mastered by Jacob Hansen, “Haven” features guest appearances by Alissa White-Gluz (ARCH ENEMY, ex-THE AGONIST), Troy Donockley (NIGHTWISH) and Charlotte Wessels (DELAIN). The g cover and artwork was created by Stefan Heilemann and additional art/layout was done by Gustavo Sazes.
