Highly Suspect were beamed into the living rooms of millions of TV viewers last night, taking the stage on TBS’s Conan to rock their current single “Bloodfeather,” but the guys also used the platform to make a political statement.
Before launching into the song, singer-guitarist Johnny Stevens addressed the crowd and viewing audience, stating, “What’s up America? Anybody but Trump, please.” And with the commentary out of the way, they delivered a stellar performance of their current hit with the occasional moments of silence in the broadcast for those special words you can’t utter on TV without getting fined.
The dig against “the Donald” should come as no surprise, especially for those who follow the band on social media. Earlier this month, when teasing their Conan appearance, the group tweeted the following message:
2015 was a big year for Highly Suspect, who enjoyed a breakout at radio with their hit single “Lydia.” The track was voted by Loudwire’s readers as the Best Rock Song of the year in the 5th Annual Loudwire Music Awards. Reflecting on the year that was, Highly Suspect posted a lengthy missive via their Facebook page that can be read here.
As for what 2016 holds, you can look for the band traveling through Europe in the early part of the year before returning stateside and launching a new leg of shows Feb. 20 in Montgomery, Ala. To keep up with their touring, click here.
