With their latest album Meliora set to be released Friday, Ghost kicked off their “Unholy/Unplugged” acoustic in-store tour last night (Aug. 18) at Silver Platters in Seattle. Watch video of the performance above. Ghost have four other shows planned through Sunday.
The three-song setlist from Papa Emeritus III and two nameless ghouls at the Seattle appearance included “Jigolo Har Megiddo,” “Zombie Queen” and their cover of Roky Erikson’s “If You Have Ghost.”
While introducing “Zombie Queen,” Papa said, ”I remember this song. No I don’t, I was never there. It’s a hard song as I was told. I read on the Wikipedia page, where it said this song was a hard song to arrange.”
The acoustic version of the song features Papa playing kazoo, and he said, ”I just might have overestimated my kazoo skills.” After the set the band members did a meet and greet with fans that lasted two hours.
In a recent interview with Loudwire, one of the nameless ghouls talked about the new album Meliora. “The whole album was written and intended to be very futuristic, very metropolitan and urban,” the ghoul explains. “Just a post from the classic goth thing; more suburban and rural and more being lush and overgrown cemeteries, spiderwebs, all of that. We were trying to take this thing to a very clean, indoors, 67th floor in a very high building, in a very big city. Those were the pictures we hung on the walls of our minds in order to know where we were going.”
The nameless ghoul continues, “We are all very conceptual because we know a little bit on where we want to go the next time. There’s a few things we couldn’t focus on, because we knew we had to keep a few things and maybe next time we’ll go super wooden, super earthy or medieval.”
The band has a more traditional tour that kicks off Sept. 22 in Washington, D.C. and wraps up Nov. 1 at the Monster Mash Festival in Phoenix, Ariz.
