The highly influential At the Gates have given fans something extra special today, not only releasing the video for the closing track off At War With Reality, “The Night Eternal,” but they have also announced European festival appearances for the summer. But wait, there’s more! The Swedish outfit also recently announced a U.S. headlining tour in 2016 with Decapitated, the Haunted and Harms Way. Now take a deep breath and calm yourself — in … out … good.
The animated video for “The Night Eternal” is ominous with its shades of grey color scale, slowly panning in and out of contorted fixtures as a floating head and shadowy human figure traverse an ever-changing landscape. The creator of the video, Costin Chioreanu, discussed the concept, detailing, “The story of ‘The Night Eternal’ speaks about the dark side of human nature and about the tragedy of living now, in a moment when any possible tool for hiding it becomes futile. ‘The Night Eternal’ is in us, ‘The Night Eternal’ is what we became, guiding our spiritual evolution using a wrong map, provided by a wrong society. The victim remains lost in a dream of constant need without any perspective of fulfillment.”
Commenting on the song, At the Gates said it is “one of the absolute strongest and also emotionally challenging songs on the new record. It is a personal favorite and always gives us an enormous touching feedback when we play it live.” Talking about the video, they add, “Therefore it was a no-brainer for us to choose this song when Costin approached us about the idea of another animated video. This time he has, once again, stunned us with his amazing efforts to portray the emotional aspects of the music and lyrics of our songs. His interpretation of our material has always inspired us to rethink and re-evaluate our own creations, and therefore something new comes out of the project every time he is involved.”
Costin previously worked with the band, creating the animated video for “Heroes and Tombs” off At War With Reality as well as the live-footage clip for “The Book of Sand (The Abomination).”
At the Gates have just confirmed appearances at the following festivals: Metaltown Indoors Festival, Metal Days Festival, Leyendas del Rock Festival, Party San Open Air Festival and Summer Breeze Festival. For a full list of shows, visit the band’s website.
