FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH: ‘Our Job Is To Make People Happy’

WNOR FM99 conducted an interview with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH drummer Jeremy Spencer and guitarist Jason Hook at the Lunatic Luau ’16 festival, which was held May 6 at Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater in Virginia Beach, Virginia. You can now watch the chat below.

Speaking about taking meeting fans at festivals, Hook said: “I think what we’ve realized is that our job, really, is to make people happy. I mean, the music’s cool and we work really hard on the records, but once all that’s put away and done, we’re really just out here, the whole day and the concert, it’s really just one meet-and-greet.”

He continued: “People come to us and they’re very excited. You’ve got two choices: you either enhance their experience or destroy their experience, and I’ve seen a lot of bands that choose the latter and are just…. They don’t get it. And I think that we decided early on that the most important thing is how people feel around us, and the feeling that they take home with them. That really is the most important thing. It makes us feel good; it makes them feel good.”

It was revealed last month that FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH’s label, Prospect Park, filed a lawsuit against the band, accusing it of allegedly trying to violate its recording contract by rushing to make a new album despite the addiction problems of singer Ivan Moody.

The group fired back, calling the suit “the latest in a long line of exploitative and abusive bullying tactics used by our former manager and current label CEO Jeff Kwatinetz to extract money from and wield power against the band.”

Amidst all this, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH announced a new co-headlining arena tour with SHINEDOWN that will kick off on October 18 in Little Rock, Arkansas and run into December. SIXX A.M. and AS LIONS will be along as support.
