Coheed and Cambria Head Back to High School for ‘You Got Spirit, Kid’ Video

While some would dread the thought of heading back to high school, Coheed and Cambria have gladly reenrolled … at least for their newest music video. In “You Got Spirit, Kid,” the band members portray high school kids who team up to play a prank on the Amory High cheerleaders and the boy’s lacrosse team. Check out the entertaining clip above.

Frontman Claudio Sanchez said of the visual, “Our video for ‘You Got Spirit, Kid’ gave us a chance to showcase a relaxed side of the band’s personality. With our love for ‘80s nostalgia, we decided to approach the treatment in a John Hughes or Steven Spielberg type fashion, allowing the spirit of youth and camaraderie to shine in each frame.” We’d agree – the clip includes nudity, a high school mascot, a pep rally, some choice shop class welding and what might be marijuana-filled brownies.

“You Got Spirit, Kid” is off Coheed and Cambria’s upcoming album The Color Before the Sun. The album comes out on Oct. 16 with digital pre-orders for the upcoming disc beginning tomorrow (Aug. 21) over on iTunes, Amazon Music and GooglePlay. Fans interested in the limited edition box set can pre-order that here now and will get that on Oct. 9.

Coheed and Cambria’s upcoming disc is a departure for the group, as it’s their first non-concept album. Sanchez recently talked about the inspiration for the disc. “The anticipation of being a father spilled into the songwriting, and I didn’t want to cloud that with a blanket of fiction,” he said. “It was a really important time in my life and I thought, ‘If I’m going to express myself as honestly as possible, now would be the time to do it.’” Coheed and Cambria are currently on tour in Europe and play at Switzerland’s Open Air Gampel Festival tonight and at Belgium’s Pukkelpop fest tomorrow. They head back to the U.S. on Aug. 28 when they play the Denver Riot Fest.
