Can’t keep away, no…” On the closing night of the Let’s Got Rocked in the Still of the Night II tour with Def Leppard and Whitesnake, Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell joined his former bandmates David Coverdale and Tommy Aldridge onstage. Together with the remainder of the Whitesnake lineup, they performed the classic hit “Still of the Night” to close out the set.

The show took place on Dec. 19 in Sheffield, England, concluding touring duties for 2015 for both bands. Campbell spent two years with Whitesnake, rounding out a lineup consisting of Coverdale, drummer Aldridge, guitarist Adrian Vandenberg and Rudy Sarzo on bass. The former Dio guitarist spent roughly two years on the road with the band and when it came time to record the follow-up to the massively successful, now eight times platinum self-titled release, things never took off.

Campbell felt uncomfortable with the writing process and split due to musical different when the sessions for Slip of the Tongue began. In a recent interview with Chronicle Live, the six-stringer went as far as saying that he feels the time spent in Whitesnake doesn’t even qualify as part of his career. Responding to a question asking if he regrets not writing an album with the Coverdale-led group, he said “Not really. I don’t really think of Whitesnake as being part of my career because I never got to write any new songs with them. I was with them just under two years for one very, very long tour. We went in to start making a new record but things didn’t work out for one reason or another.”

Opening the show was Black Star Riders, formerly known as Thin Lizzy, a group Campbell had also spent some time in. Campbell did not join the Irish act onstage at the show though to make a hat-trick out of the night, playing with three different bands.

2015 was a tough year for the legendary guitarist, who is still engaged in and on and off battle with Hodgkins lymphoma. In June it was announced that the cancer had returned, just six months after Campbell had felt it was finally gone. After undergoing a series of treatments, he announced that the cancer was being held at bay and that the tumors were even possibly shrinking.
