WWE NXT wrestler Baron Corbin says that he wants to get his hands back on Corey Taylor after the SLIPKNOT singer slapped him during a match at last month’s Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California.
Taylor was trading barbs with Corbin on social media in the weeks leading up to the match between Samoa Joe and Corbin. Taylor, who was in attendance watching the action, had words with Corbin, and later, during the match, Corbin threw Joe into the stairs in front of Corey, Baron got in Corey’s face and Corey slapped him. This got the biggest audience reaction of the match and allowed Joe to get the win.
Asked by Revolver magazine what happened between him and Taylor, Corbin said (see video below): “Well, Corey and I had been sharing a few words, talking about who’s gonna steal the show and who’s gonna be what everybody’s talking about. And I told him, ‘NXT is here and we’re gonna steal the show. We are the headliner, regardless of time slots.’ And he saw things differently. And so, [the] night [before the match], I told him, ‘There’s men of words, and men of action.’ And I said if he was a man of action to show up, and he showed up, so I give him props for that. And he sat front row, and I saw him there. And I had a match with Samoa Joe, who is a tough opponent. I kept going over to Corey and telling him, ‘Look, this is how it’s done. This is how men do it.’ And I think he took a little offense to it. So I finally got in his face, and he stood up — I give him credit for that one — and then he took a shot. He took a shot and he cracked me in the side of the head, and it led to a Samoa Joe victory. So I found out the hard way that Corey Taylor is a man of actions, and I may have paid for my words a little bit. So I give him credit for coming out and showing his face. He took a shot and he’ll pay for it eventually; I’ll get my hands back on Corey. So it’s a good little feud that’s starting up between us. And I’ll be happy when I get my payback.”
In a 2011 interview with Wrestling With Pop Culture, Taylor said: “I’ve been a wrestling fan since I was a kid. If you embrace it for what it is, which is entertainment, I have no illusions about the fact of if it’s real or not. But I know it’s physically taxing and it takes great skill to make it look good and no skill to make it look crappy. I know the people who rise to the top are the best in the business and it’s almost a metaphor for the music business. People come and go, but legends stay forever. My all-time favorite wrestler is Stone Cold, but I also love The Rock, Triple H, Shawn Michaels and the wrestlers I grew up with, which is [Hulk] Hogan, Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat, Tito Santana, Andre [The Giant], even ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan. I got to meet him and Brutus ‘The Barber’ Beefcake and I was, like, freaking out. I was losing my shit, I was like, ‘Oh my God. You guys are awesome.’ I’m still a fan.”
